1979 Mint Set

U.S. Mint Uncirculated Coin Set

A new circulating coin series debuted within the 1979 Mint Set (Buy on eBay). The Susan B. Anthony Dollar issued for circulation for the first time this year and examples struck at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints were included in the annual Uncirculated Coin Set. Although coins were also produced for circulation at San Francisco, this coin was not included within the set.

Despite the change in series, the total number of coins and face value remained unchanged from last year, with 12 coins valued at $3.82. Nonetheless, the cost of the set was raised for collectors by $1.00 over the prior year price to $8.00. Despite the increase, collectors ordered 2,526,000 sets, likely prompted by excitement over the newly launched dollar coin series.

Each 1979 Uncirculated Mint Set contained “P” and “D” examples of the Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, Kennedy Half Dollar, and Susan B. Anthony Dollar.

The six coins from each mint facility were placed within sealed plastic cellophane packs. These were placed between two protective cardboard pieces and placed within an envelope marked “U.S. MINT 1979 Uncirculated Coin”.
