1984 Mint Set

U.S. Mint Uncirculated Coin Set

The 1984 Mint Set (Buy on eBay) reintroduced the product for collectors, following the absence of the sets in 1982 and 1983. Starting this year, the outer envelopes would feature colorful illustrations or images that would change each year of offering. This was a change from the plain white envelopes that had been used for the Mint Sets of the past two decades.

There were a total of ten coins with a face value of $1.82 included in each 1984 Mint Set. The set included Kennedy Half Dollars, Washington Quarters, Roosevelt Dimes, Jefferson Nickels, and Lincoln Cents struck at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints. It also included were two mint tokens from both mints.

U.S. Mint sales for the set suffered a decline of more than one million from the level of the 1981 Mint Set. This may have been the result of collector frustration of not having the set for two years. The sets were priced at $7.00, a reduction from the $11.00 issue price of the last available set, which had included $3.00 more in face value.

The 1984 Mint Set packaging had upper dark brown and lower light brown colors separated by red, white, and blue. The outside of the envelope had printing “1984 Uncirculated Coin Set,” “United States Mint,” and the mint marks “D” and “P.”
